In 1412, he abdicated in favor of his son, who took the throne as [[Emperor Shoko|Emperor Shôkô]]. After Shôkô died in [[1429]], Retired Emperor Go-Komatsu took his successor, [[Emperor Go-Hanazono]] as his adoptive nephew, and advised him until his own death in [[1433]].
