Sir Stamford Raffles was a British official best known for his role in the founding of [[Singapore]] and British Malaya.
From [[1811]] to [[1816]], he served as the British governor of the [[Dutch East Indies]]. After this, he returned to London with some one hundred cases of Asian objects, many of which are now in the collection of the [[British Museum]].
