*''Japanese'': 行燈・行灯 ''(andon)''
''Andon'' are a traditional style of Japanese lantern, made of a wooden, bamboo, or metal frame and lined with paper. Though the form originally emerged in the [[Kamakura period]] as a handheld style of lantern, by the [[Edo period]] it was the most standard form of lighting fixture used indoors; various types of ''andon'' were designed to be hung from pillars or walls or to be placed on floors or furniture.
