Yamao Yôzô was one of the [[Choshu Five|Chôshû Five]], some of the first Japanese to ever study overseas in the West. After studying for a time at University College London alongside [[Ito Hirobumi|Itô Hirobumi]], [[Inoue Kaoru]], and others, he became Minister of Industry, and established an art school and schools for the blind & deaf.
