Zheng Jing was the son of [[Zheng Chenggong]], succeeding his father in [[1662]] as ''de facto'' ruler of [[Taiwan]], leading local forces in resisting a [[Qing Dynasty|Qing]] takeover of the island for some time.
At some point in the 1670s, he traveled to mainland China, where he fought under [[Wu Sangui]] in the [[Revolt of the Three Feudatories]], attempting to resist Qing control over southern China.<ref>Schottenhammer, Angela. “Empire and Periphery?
