Gerhardus Fabius was a Dutch naval captain who traveled to Japan several times captaining different ships. He first arrived in Japan in [[1854]] as captain of the warship ''[[Soembing]]'', which was later gifted to the [[Tokugawa shogunate]] and renamed the ''Kanko Maru''. Fabius then returned to Japan in [[1856]] as captain of the warship ''[[Medusa]]''.
