He then formed the [[Roshigumi|Rôshigumi]], hiring a group of ''[[ronin]]'' to help guard Shogun [[Tokugawa Iemochi]] on a [[1863]] trip to [[Kyoto]]. In conjunction with these responsibilities, Shungaku was named ''seiji sôsaishoku'', a high-ranking government oversight position.
