Tokugawa Munekatsu was the 8th head of the [[Owari Tokugawa clan]]. Born Matsudaira Yoshiatsu, heir to the Mino Takasu Matsudaira branch family (30,000 ''[[koku]]''), he became head of that family before, on [[1739]]/1/13, being named head of the Owari Tokugawa clan, succeeding [[Tokugawa Muneharu]]. Muneharu, taking responsibility for a crime, was forced to retire that same day, and was placed under house arrest.
