Rin studied in China for four years, beginning at the age of 27. In [[1789]], when he was 38, he was appointed alongside [[Ryo Sho|Ryô Shô]] and [[Mo Chishi|Mô Chishi]] to train musicians who would travel to [[Edo]] the following year. He led daily lessons and rehearsals at [[Ankokuzen-ji]] for roughly one year, until 1790/5, prior to the mission's departure on 1790/6/6.
