*Japanese: 売茶翁 (bai sa ou)
Baisaô was an itinerant monk, known for his poetry and calligraphy, and as one of the chief proponents of the sencha tea ceremony, which was quickly adopted by many Sinophile literati, who saw it as an ideal informal, cultured way to share tea with one another in a Chinese manner. His pseudonym, Baisaô, literally means "old man who sells tea."
