Tokihisa served the [[Shimazu clan]] of [[Satsuma province]]. He defeated an attack by the [[Kimotsuki clan]] in [[1573]] and put down a rebellion of former [[Ito clan|Itô]] retainers in [[1578]]. He acted as a hostage to [[Toyotomi Hideyoshi]] after the latter invaded [[Kyushu]] in [[1587]]. He was afterwards installed at Miyanojô in Satsuma Province.
