Terumichi was the son of [[Onodera Masumichi|Onodera ''Izu no kami'' Masumichi]] (d. [[1546]]). In his youth, Terumichi had been sent to [[Kyoto]] to serve [[Ashikaga Yoshiteru]] as a page and from the latter received the 'Teru' in his name. He returned to Dewa Province and proved a capable leader.
