Shoko

A shôko on display at the Metropolitan Museum

• Japanese: 鉦鼓 (shouko)

The shôko is a type of gong used particularly in gagaku. It consists of a small metal disc, suspended, and is played with two long, thin, rods, which after striking the inside of the gong are kept on its surface, being slowly slid down and off.
