The Kachôjaya (lit. "birds and flowers teahouse") was a teahouse which opened in Edo c. 1790-1800, which kept numerous plants, flowers, and exotic birds on display for patrons to enjoy. The birds on display included peacocks, parrots, and even ostriches imported via Chinese and Dutch merchants at Nagasaki.
