The sanshin-uchi or sangen nushidori was a Ryukyuan official post which oversaw the construction of high quality sanshin (a three-stringed musical instrument related to the Japanese shamisen). The post was created by King Shô Eki in 1710 and came under the umbrella of the kaizuri bugyô-sho, which oversaw lacquerwares and other craft products. The first person to hold the post was named Chinen.[1]
