Shinsengumi Timeline

I have created a seperate page for the Shinsengumi Timeline, and I used a Wikipedia trick to display that article seamlessly inside the Shinsengumi article. For anyone curious, I put this in the article:

That puts the text from another article inside the article you are working on. Ibaraki Tsukasa

The book 血誠新撰組-峻烈壬生浪士忠と斬 says that when Ibaraki tried to leave the Shinsengumi he was killed (新撰組の大石鍬次郎らに斬殺された). But it goes on to say that his grave states that he committed suicide. What do your books say about this? I wonder if it isn't really known exactly how he died? --Kitsuno 21:55, 26 December 2006 (PST)

Generally it is believed that Ibaraki,Sano,Tomikawa,Nakamura, those 4 members committed Seppuku together in the Aizu han residence.

What exactly does 幕府召し抱え refer to? were 召し抱え (mercenaries) different troops from the Shinsengumi? A biography for Shibayama Tokusaburou says: 1867/6/10 の幕府召し抱えで平士に名を連ねている。What exactly does this mean? --Kitsuno 21:11, 29 December 2006 (PST)

Shinsengumi "Units"

2 questions - how were the units referred to? 番組み or 番隊? And does the list of captains on the Shinsengumi page (Captains 組長) indicate which unit they lead? --Kitsuno 15:40, 30 December 2006 (PST)

Dappan 脱藩

New Category

I am going to create a category called Shinsengumi Members, exclusively for the members of the Shinsengumi, while the current "Shinsengumi" category will still be for all members and people and events related to the shinsengumi. This will allow people to check the "Shinsengumi Members" category to see just the members, while the "Shinsengumi" category will be for everyone related, and the related events. So from this point on, be sure to include both [[Category:Shinsengumi]] and [[Category:Shinsengumi Members]] to the biographies of the actual shinsengumi members. --Kitsuno 18:44, 7 January 2007 (PST)

Lunar Calendar

"On November 18 (lunar calendar)" Do we have to mention Lunar calendar everytime when writing dates?--Shikisoku 17:12, 12 January 2007 (PST)

Since a lot of people get confused, I believe that we do have to mention it's a lunar calendar date whenever possible. Seven 17:16, 12 January 2007 (PST)

I had discussion about this with Kitsuno when writing Timeline. And conclusion was that this wiki takes Lunar calendar. So please stop adding (lunar calendar) until Kitsuno decide what to do.--Shikisoku 17:25, 12 January 2007 (PST)

There is no need to add "lunar calendar" because unless otherwise noted, it is understood as lunar calendar. I just have to update the main page to reflect that. You'll notice that on many of the shinsengumi bios for birth and death I have both. --Kitsuno 19:48, 12 January 2007 (PST)

The problem you've helped highlight is that there are so few people who actually edit, we pretty much all know the formats, so I'm sure it is a pain for new users to figure out how things need to be done. The "Help" section I have is OK, but pretty basic, I need to really go in and write specific sections for a variety of things, including dates, but also for biographies from different eras - the pre-Edo period biographies have been completely standardized, but those standards don't fit with (for example) the bakumatsu biographies because they contain fundamentally different information. It's on my to-do list, but it will be a slow process, since I dont have a lot of time right now to put all this down. --Kitsuno 22:06, 12 January 2007 (PST)

Ikedaya floor plan

I've found a link which seems to have very good information about the Ikedaya floor plan (it is in Japanese). The link is www.webdiver.com/ikedaya[1]. The linkalso maps out the movement of key Shinsengumi members as they fought their way through the place. The only problem I see is that the site is copyrighted so we can't use their images. Anyway, check this site out.
