Iizuka Reiji was a yôga (Western-style oils) painter of the early 20th century.
Born in the Honmoku neighborhood of Yokohama in 1904, he traveled the world in his 20s, and studied techniques of Western painting. Returning to Japan, he gained popularity as a painter of inserted images for boys' magazines.
In his last years, he took up maritime subjects. Iizuka died in 2004 at the age of 99.
