Hofuku-ji

• Japanese: 宝福寺 (Houfuku-ji)

Hôfuku-ji is a Buddhist temple in Shimoda which served for a time as lodgings for the Shimoda bugyô and as his temporary administrative office.

The temple was later the site of a notable meeting between Yamauchi Yôdô and Katsu Kaishû, and further boasts a statue of Sakamoto Ryôma, who stayed there for a time while on the run.

Okichi, a geisha or servant associated with Townsend Harris, is buried at Hôfuku-ji.
