Ch'oe Myonggil was a Korean scholar-official who successfully argued for peace negotiations with the Qing (Manchus) in 1637, and who participated in drafting the peace treaty, marking the end of the Second Manchu invasion of Korea.

Over the next several years, until the fall of the Ming Dynasty to Qing forces in 1644, he worked actively to convey intelligence about the Qing to the Ming Court.
