*Japanese: 東本願寺 (higashi honganji)

Located in the Asakusa neighborhood of Tokyo, the Tokyo Higashi Hongan-ji is the head temple of the Higashi Honganji sect of Jôdo Shinshû Buddhism, having split off from the much more famous Higashi Honganji in Kyoto, which is the head of the Ôtani Shinshû school of Buddhism.

From 1682 until the end of the Edo period, Korean embassies to Edo were regularly lodged here during their time in Edo.
