Kamiya Sôtan was a Hakata-based merchant and prominent tea master who was also active in Sakai. He was a notable associate of Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Sen no Rikyû, participating in a number of tea gatherings with them both in Kyushu and in the Kinai.
