Emperor Higashiyama reigned during the time of Shogun Tokugawa Tsunayoshi.

A son of Emperor Reigen, he took the throne following his father's abdication in 1687. He then abdicated in turn in 1709, passing the throne to one of his sons, who became Emperor Nakamikado.
