The Nan'yôkan (South Sun Hall) was the first Western-style building to be erected in Okinawa prefecture. It was completed in 1894 on the site of what is today the Prefectural Government Offices (Okinawa Kenchô). It was used for a time as the town hall (kôkaidô) and from 1905 housed the Naha Business High School, but by 1918, the wooden structure had fallen into disrepair and decay, and so was torn down.
