Takamine Chôkyô was one of Okinawa prefecture's first two elected representatives to the National Diet House of Representatives, along with Kishimoto Gashô.

He and Kishimoto, along with Jahana Noboru, Ôta Chôfu, and Nakijin Chôshin, were the first five Okinawan students sponsored by the Meiji government to study in Tokyo.
