From SamuraiWiki
Jump to navigationJump to searchMinamoto no Yoshimitsu was a head of the Kawachi Genji line of the Minamoto clan. He was the third son of Minamoto no Yoriyoshi, and a brother to Minamoto no Yoshiie.
He celebrated his coming-of-age at Shinra Zenshindô, a shrine dedicated to a god from Silla (Korea), on the grounds of Miidera temple in what is today Shiga prefecture. In connection with that, he took on the name Shinra Saburô. A site traditionally said to be his grave stands within the grounds of the shrine today.
Yoshimitsu fought alongside his brother Yoshiie in conflicts in Mutsu province.
Yoshimitsu is said to have used a sword made by Ohara Sanemori (796-861; date debated).
