Shô Chôshô was a Ryukyuan scholar-aristocrat who served as a gakudôji (musician/dancer) on the 1842 Ryukyuan embassy to Edo, and as gakushi (master musician) on the 1850 mission. He was appointed to the latter on 1848/9/1, and was at the same time promoted in rank, and granted the privilege of wearing a yellow court cap.
