Araburu Nishimono

Jump to navigationJump to searchThe Araburu Nishimono were "violent barbarians of Azuma"[1]. Azuma referred to pre-7th century eastern Japan. Azuma was later broken up into multiple provinces, one of which was Hitachi province. The above is from Michiko Aoki's translation of the Hitachi no Kuni Fudoki. Mark Funke's translation reads that these people were the Emishi.
Emperor Sujin, who at that time was still known as Prince Mimaki, commanded a certain Hinarasu to qwell these rebellious peoples.
