- 1185/8 Official celebration for the completion of repairs to the Tôdai-ji Daibutsu is held.
- 1185/11/11 Emperor Go-Shirakawa issues orders to hunt Yoshitsune.
- 1185/11/17 Shizuka Gozen captured in Yoshino.
Gempei War (1180-1185)
- 1185/2/19 Minamoto Yoshitsune attacks Yashima (Sanuki) and puts the Taira to flight (Battle of Yashima).
- 1185/3/24 The Taira clan is utterly destroyed at the Battle of Dan-no-Ura. The Emperor Antoku dies in the course of the fighting along with many others, and Taira Munemori is captured and later executed. The Gempei War ends.
