Yasuda Motohisa was a noted Kamakura Period scholar, born in Hiroshima prefecture, in Hiroshima city. He graduated Tokyo University with a degree in Japanese history in 1947. After assisting at Tokyo University, he transferred to Hokkaido University where he became an assistant professor of literature. He received his PhD in 1962 from Tokyo University, and he became a professor of literature at Gakushu-in University in Tokyo in 1963. He later served as the university president from 1985-1989.
