The Ryû family of Tatsugô village were a prominent power-holding family on [[Amami Oshima|Amami Ôshima]] island. Descended from migrants from elsewhere in the [[Ryukyu Islands|Ryûkyû Islands]], the family later changed their surname to Tabata.
Prominent members of the family include [[Ryu Aiko|Ryû Aiko]] (also known as Aikana; a wife of [[Saigo Takamori|Saigô Takamori]]) and her father [[Ryu Saeshi|Ryû Saeshi]] (also known as Tameshi).
