Natsume Soseki was a [[Meiji period]] novelist, regarded today as one of the most famous and influential figures in the history of Japanese modern literature.

His most famous works, ''Wagahai neko de aru'' ("I Am a Cat") and ''Botchan'', were published in [[1905]] and [[1906]] respectively.

His earliest biography was written by [[Ikezaki Tadataka]], one of his students.<ref>Exhibition pamphlet, "Naha wo utau," Naha City Museum of History, 2015.</ref>
