Zacharias Wagenaer was ''opperhoofd'' (factor, chief) of the [[Dutch East India Company]] base at [[Dejima]] for a time.

He also served for a time in Brazil, and is known for his paintings of scenes and sights in both places, including at least one depiction of the [[Meireki Fire]] in [[Edo]].
