The Useekuju was an office located just outside the Shureimon of [[Shuri castle]]. Little is known about it, but based on archaeological excavations, it is believed to have been a predecessor to the [[Kozaiku bugyo|Kôzaiku bugyôsho]], providing the royal court of the [[Ryukyu Kingdom|Ryûkyû Kingdom]] with a variety of items ranging from clothing to tatami mats, saddles, parasols, lanterns, and palanquins. The latter was established in [[1733]].
Even before the [[Ryukyu shobun|fall of the kingdom]], the grounds of the Useekuju office were made a park, known as Wii-nu-yakuen (J: Ueno yakuen). In [[1900]], the park was made the grounds of an elementary school, and while the name of the school has changed over time, it remains the site of Jôsai Elementary School today.
