Originally built in 1187, the Hachiman Shrine in the Nishijô neighborhood of Aisai City, Aichi prefecture, is believed to be one of the ten oldest shrines in the country.
Dedicated to the spirit of Emperor Ôjin (who is worshipped as the deity Hachiman), the shrine was rebuilt in 1470. Its main sanctuary is built in an old and rare one-bay-wide style known as ikkensha zukuri.
