- Japanese: 文徳天皇 (Montoku tennou)
Emperor Montoku reigned as emperor of Japan from 850 to 858. He was a grandson of Fujiwara no Fuyutsugu.
Montoku took the throne in the aftermath of the Jôwa Incident of 842, in which his grandmother Empress Danrin helped conspire in accusations against Crown Prince Tsunesada, alleging that Tsunesada was plotting a coup. Tsunesada was removed as Crown Prince, and Montoku, known at that time as Prince Michiyasu, was named Crown Prince in his place.
Fujiwara Akirakeiko was among his consorts. He was succeeded by their son Prince Korehito, who took the throne as Emperor Seiwa in 858.
A branch of the Minamoto clan known as the Montoku Genji claimed descent from Emperor Montoku.
