- Kôan 3/12/12 (January 1281) Kublai Khan orders the second Mongol invasion of Japan to begin.
- 1281/5/22 Korean Mongol force seizes Ikishima.
- 1281/6/6 Korean Mongol force makes landings at several points on the north coast of Kyushu
- 1281/7/30 Typhoon (kamikaze) strikes Kyushu. Mongol forces abandon invasion and begin to flee.
- 1281/int. 7/1 Typhoon continues, destroying much of the Mongol fleet.
