Ôtomo no Tabito was a notable poet of the [[Nara period]], whose poetry is included in the [[Manyoshu|Man'yôshû]].
He was appointed ''Dazai no sochi'' and traveled to [[Dazaifu]] in [[728]], along with his wife, who died shortly afterward.
He died in the [[Inland Sea]] port-town of [[Tomonoura]] in [[730]].
