The Neshima of Ôsumi were descended from Taira Koremori, whose grandson Kiyoshige took the name Neshima. During the Nambokuchu Period they supported the Northern Court and supported Imagawa Sadayo. They came under the influence of the Kimotsuki but in the later years of the Sengoku Period became a Shimazu retainer family.
