Not to be confused with the Later Jin Dynasty 後金, later renamed the Qing dynasty (1616-1911).
  • Dates: 936-947
  • Chinese: 後晋 (Hòu Jìn)

The Later Jin Dynasty was a short-lived dynasty during China's Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period. Ruled by Shi Jingtang from 936 until his death in 942, and then by his nephew Shi Chonggui until 947, the Later Jin is primarily known for having surrendered sixteen strategically valuable prefectures to the Khitan Liao dynasty, contributing indirectly to the rise of the Jurchen Jin dynasty which conquered the Han Chinese Northern Song dynasty several centuries later.
