Ichijo-in (Kagoshima)

Ichijô-in was a historic temple in Bônotsu, Satsuma province. Established in 583, it was granted the name Nyoishuzan in the 12th century by order of the emperor, and came to be regarded as a chokuganji (a temple established on imperial orders).

The temple expanded over the centuries with gifts of land from a number of successive heads of the Shimazu clan, but was eventually abolished in the haibutsu kishaku efforts of the early Meiji period.
