Toyotake Wakadayû as seen in a Meiji period print

Toyotake Wakadayû was the founder of the Takemoto school of gidayû chanting and shamisen, a significant contribution to the development of ningyô jôruri (puppet theatre).

He was a student of Takemoto Gidayû, and the founder of the Takemoto-za theatre.
