Tadanori

  • Author: Zeami
  • Japanese: 忠度 (Tadanori)

Tadanori is a second-category (warrior play) Noh play by Zeami Motokiyo, which focuses on the story of Taira no Tadanori, killed in the Battle of Ichi-no-Tani in 1184.

A prime example of the model form of a warrior play, Tadanori features as the lead (shite) role the ghost of Tadanori, who is trapped at the battlefield; his soul is unable to rest because though one of his poems was included in an Imperial anthology shortly after his death, it was left anonymous and so he has not been given proper recognition.
