Jacques Specx was the first ''opperhoofd'' (head, or factor) of the [[Dutch East India Company]] factory at [[Hirado]]. Specx received a [[shuinsen|red seal license]] from [[Tokugawa Ieyasu]] in [[1611]], authorizing him (within the Japanese system) to engage in trade between Japan and Southeast Asia.
