Horiuchi clan
The Horiuchi were a family from Kii province whose origins are obscure beyond a number of theories, including one connecting them to Minamoto Tameyoshi. During the early part of the Sengoku Period, Horiuchi Ujitora took advantage of the decline of the Hatakeyama clan to expand in the Kumano district of Kii and in the process absorbed the local Arima family. Ujitora's son Ujiyoshi later served Toyotomi Hideyoshi but was dispossessed after the Sekigahara Campaign (1600).
