Yamazaki Susumu

He was born in Osaka as son of Acupuncture therapist. It is unknown when he joined Shinsengumi. He was working as a spy and took imporatnt role of Ikedaya Affair,the Choshu war and many other incidents. He learned medicine from Matsumoto Ryojun and worked as emergency doctor in Shinsengumi also. In 1868, he was heavily wounded in the Battle of Toba-Fushimi. He died on the battleship Fujisan maru on the way to Edo. (Some historians deny it) According to Shinsengumi Ibun, Kondo Isami speeched condolence for him with tears.

In 2004, his note book was found and was displayed in the Hino Furusato Museum. It's not sure whether the book is going to be published.
