Wasa Daihachiro
Wasa Daihachirô was a young man whose 1686 record in the Sanjûsangendô archery contest was never defeated.
On 1686/4/26 to 4/27, Wasa fired 13,053 arrows the length of the Sanjûsangendô Hall in Kyoto over a roughly twenty-four hour period (from sunset to sunset); of these, 8,133 flew the full length of the hall without striking the building. This beat the previous record of 8,000 arrows (out of 10,542 fired), set by Hoshino Kanzaemon in 1669. Wasa's record remains undefeated.
Wasa died in 1713 and is buried alongside other members of his family at a temple called Jôon-ji in the Motomachi area of Tanabe City, Wakayama prefecture.
