Ba Kokushô was a Ryukyuan scholar-official who served as gakudôji (teenage entertainer) on the 1832 Ryukyuan embassy to Edo, and who later rose through the ranks of the scholar-aristocracy to become a member of the Sanshikan, the top administrators and royal advisors in the kingdom.

He was age 13 when he accompanied the 1832 embassy to Edo.
