Hamamatsu in Shizuoka prefecture (formerly Tôtômi provice) was the central castle-town of Hamamatsu han. It was also the 29th post-station along the Tôkaidô highway.

One of the largest Tôkaidô post-stations, Hamamatsu was home to six honjin, 94 hatagoya inns, and 1,622 homes in 1843.
