- 1523/3 Asai Sukemasa expels his master Kyôgoku Takakiyo.(Ômi)
- 1523/4 Ningbo Incident - The Ôuchi and Hosokawa clans both send tribute missions to China, led by Sôsetsu and Song Suqing, respectively. The two (labeled as wakô in some accounts) clash in the Chinese port of Ningbo. As a result, the Ningbo and Fuzhou port offices are closed, leaving the one in Guangzhou the only one open to receive foreign ships and manage tribute and trade.
