Ujikuni was the 3rd son of Hôjô Ujiyasu and was adopted by Fujita Yasukuni. He competed for reknown with his elder brother Ujiteru, whom he resembled in many ways. He was defeated along with Ujiteru at the battle of Mimasetoge by Takeda Shingen in 1569. At the start of the Odawara Campaign (1590), he was surrounded in Hachigata castle in Musashi province by Maeda Toshiie and Uesugi Kagekatsu. He held out for a month before surrendering. He was spared and later died of illness at Kanazawa in Kaga province on 9/19/1597.
